Donald Trump Expects to Decide by June if He'll Run for President in 2012

The Donald is currently exploring the possibility of throwing his hat in the ring for the GOP nomination for President in 2012.Donald Trump has dispatched one of his top advisers to Iowa with instructions to explore the type of reception that Trump might receive there if he were to announce his candidacy for President in 2012. Rumors have been swirling recently that Trump is strongly weighing his options and trying to determine his chances of successfully securing the GOP nomination in 2012.

Although Trump is very well-known and generally popular among most Americans, the reality is that it would be extremely difficult for Trump to emerge as a serious threat to secure the GOP nomination. With the overall mood of the country still sour and many pushing hard for fiscal responsibility, it's hard to envision The Donald capturing the support of the conservative base. At least not with the likes of Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney likely to be running as well.

There is a school of thought that says a candidate such as Trump could benefit from the fact that strong candidates like Huckabee and Romney will cancel each other out in terms of their respective followings, making each a weaker opponent. Trump's novelty in such a race could serve him well, allowing him to capture the moderates and free-thinkers who would feel uncomfortable supporting more hard-line conservatives.

And from the standpoint of self-promotion, even an unsuccessful run for the GOP nomination could strengthen the Trump brand, if properly orchestrated. Given that Trump is a fixture on NBC and is comfortable in front of the camera, it's possible that he could devise a marketing and campaign strategy that might be able to get it done. It would certainly make things much more interesting if he tries.
